• Adoption Info

We try to find the best match between our homeless animals and their new owners. We operate a no "time limit" policy for all the animals we have available for adoption - we will care for them until we find the very best home for them.

About Us

The North Taranaki Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was established in 1912 and is a branch of the Royal New Zealand SPCA in New Plymouth.

Our primary functions are to:

Investigate and deal with complaints of cruelty and neglect
Uphold the laws relating to the treatment of animals and take prosecutions where necessary
Provide sanctuary to animals in distress
Re-home animals
Provide education
Promote responsible pet ownership.

We work from an SPCA Centre which is located at 75 Colson Road, New Plymouth.  We have facilities to hold cats, dogs, kittens, puppies, small animals, birds and livestock.  We are extremely fortunate to have the facilities and land.  The purchase and construction of this facility in 1996 was made possible when we were the very fortunate recipients of a bequest from Chomley/Fairfax.
The SPCA is a charitable organisation and we receive our funding from donations, bequests, fundraising, sales of goods from our SPCA Op Shop and sales of pet products from our SPCA Centre.
