ADOPTION INFO

We try to find the best match between our homeless animals and their new owners. We operate a no "time limit" policy for the animals we have available for adoption - we will care for them until we find the very best home for them.
It is important that you think about the decision to adopt a pet very carefully and be fully aware of the commitment, costs, challenges and obligations and responsibilities that come with pet ownership. You need to be able to afford both the day-to-day care of your new pet and also any unexpected vet bills should your pet get sick or injured. We strongly recommend that when you adopt a pet that you start up a small automatic payment to your vet each week to ensure you can cover the cost of any unexpected ill health of your animal.
Adopting a pet means you are making a lifelong commitment to love and care for it and that it becomes an integral part of your family. It is very important to consider future plans you may have and make sure that you can include your pet in these plans.
You can check out most of the animals we have available for adoption on our website or by visiting our centre. If you have any questions about any of the animals available for adoption you can call us to speak with us.
Some things to consider before adopting:
Do you have the time to provide exercise and regular care? Is there someone who is going to be home to spend time with your new pet on a regular basis?
Have you worked out the costs of feeding, registering and caring for your pet?
If you rent or lease your house, are you permitted to keep a pet?
Remember a new pet is a BIG decision, but it can also be a wonderfully rewarding one. If you're ready to take that next step, then check out our animals available for adoption...

ADOPTION PROCESS

If you would like to adopt a pet from the North Taranaki SPCA view the animals online and come out and visit as not all of the pets available are on the website.
Please allow plenty of time when you come in to meet the animals available for adoption. We will ask you questions and can offer advice about helping your new pet settle into your home and family.  Most animals will be available to take home on the day of your visit but if you are wishing to adopt a dog or puppy you will need to complete an application form and an inspector will visit your property to ensure fencing, shelter etc is adequate.
All dogs, pups, cats and kittens rehomed from the SPCA come to you desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and up to date with worm and flea treatment.

If you would like to see some of our animals available for adoption, please go to our Facebook page.
